Aquaseal donating masks and raising funds for Lewy body charity in support of company founder

Aquaseal Rubber has donated masks to a local care home and are actively raising funds for a charity close to our hearts in support of company founder, Eddie Armstrong.

Eddie founded Aquaseal Rubber (it was called Argus Rubber Engineering back then) in 1971. After many years of hard work and commitment, he stepped down from the role in 2013 to spend more time with his family, letting his son Jason take over.

In 2015, Eddie fully retired and not long after lost his wife Sylvia which was unexpected and life-changing for him and the family. After losing his life-long partner, Eddie sadly suffered from a heart attack which resulted in him having a stent put into his heart. After recovering from this, he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia – a type of dementia that is a mixture of Parkinson disease and dementia.

Since this date, Eddie has been deteriorating in his ability to care for himself and walking became a struggle. Earlier this year, in February, he was assessed in hospital for his care abilities and was sent to a respite centre where he stayed for 3 weeks (2 of which were because of the lockdown). When he was fit enough to leave, the family started looking around for a suitable care home which can accommodate his needs. We found a nice place in Jesmond, Newcastle called Fleming Court where he has been a resident ever since. As you’ll be aware, protection from the coronavirus has been a worry in care homes and the company decided to do something to help. We purchased some face masks and supplied them to Fleming Court to ensure the staff were well-protected and keeping Eddie as protected as they can. Trina Guthrie, the resident liaison officer sent us a message of thanks,

Fleming Court would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to Jason Armstrong MD of Aquaseal Rubber for the very kind donation of 500 masks. Thank you from all of our staff for your generosity”.

We are continuing to sell face masks to our customers, with all profits from the sales going towards the Lewy Body Dementia Society. We are also matching the amount of money raised from the sales and donating this too.

If you would like to help us raise money for the charity and protect yourself or your employees, please get in touch to order masks.
